The Drift 2009 - Local Community, Local Art

The 5th Annual Drift - Art on Main Street Art Walk & Open Studio Tour, October 2, 3 & 4, 2009. Over 100 artists, 35 Artists’ Working Studios & 80 Main Street Shops, Cafes & Galleries team up to host this free 2-day art party!

Check out the Drift web site for a sneak preview of the artists who will be showing their work this year: lots of new creative young talent plus many of your favorite Drift artists from past years. Many new local shops & galleries are partnering with the Drift this year including Forsya Boutique, Once Upon a Huckleberry Bush, Darkday Tattoo Studio, Rubber Rainbow and more . . . no two Drift events are the same !!! Drift artists will be demonstrating their work and meeting visitors throughout the weekend. A few highlights:

  • Eleanor Hannan: Live sewing machine "busking" (drawing) with long-time artistic collaborator, Elizabeth Dancoes, at her studio, 245 E. Broadway, both days of the Drift.
  • David Kaden: Showing his fantasy-based paintings and judging the third annual miniature-painting contest for the second year at Strategies Games & Hobbies.
  • Thyrza Segal: Terrarium Planting demos Sunday 2pm at Rath Art Supply.
  • Vanessa T. Cunningham: demonstration of spinning and weaving techniques both days of the Drift at Birkeland Brothers Wool.

Enjoy hors d'oeuvres & cash bar and bid on a huge number of Silent Auction items, including donated artwork and fantastic merchandise and services from The Drift's Main Street retail partners and local businesses. The Gala is an opportunity to see examples of the art work that will be on show during the 2-day art walk in over 80 Main Street shops, galleries & cafes and 35 artists' open studios.

The Drift would like to thank Drift artist Laura Zerebeski for her image of Main Street seen on all Drift publicity this year. Laura's paintings will be on show at her studio: Beaumont Studios- 316 West 5th Avenue.
