Sonja Hébert
Drawing | Mixed Media
Sonja Hébert born of Acadian heritage has been living and building her art career in Vancouver for 18 years. Her work is often inspired by themes of dislocation, hybridization, the cycles of life and adaptation. Sonja's drawings combine charcoal, graphite, oil sticks and collage. Her choices of media for installations are varied and include unconventional sculptural materials and altered objects.
"I find inspiration in many things but mostly through natural science, debris, and mythology, the gesture of dancers, graphs, politics and dreams. I draw to get back to basics, to the initial mark making process with carbon, the fundamental molecule of all life. I also enjoy manipulating materials and discovering what each material has to say about this place we share".
