Rocio Graham
Mixed Media | Painting | Photography
I was born in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico but grew up in the arid Sonora desert which gave me an appreciation for vibrant colours and an awareness of the economical context of third world society. Art has always been a part of my life; including poetry, photography, painting, mixed media, and print making.
My art has become a colour extravaganza blended with political and personal challenges and a tint of humour. The stories that I want to tell with my art are sometimes reflected in subtle ways while other times they are at the forefront.
I moved to Canada in 2002 and successfully developed a business career until art called me back. I finished a Certificate in Fine Arts at Emily Carr University of Art and Design and I am currently enrolled in the BFA program.
I use mostly acrylics but incorporate other materials like rust, patina, found objects, collage, and encaustic.
